Have you ever stopped to think about all the generic Top Level Domains (gTLDs) that you have seen over the years? Let’s see. You obviously know .com, .net and .org. And you’ve probably seen some .info and .biz websites at some point during your Internet journey. Did you know that from 1985-2012, there were 22 TLDs released? Here they are (in order of appearance):

You’ve probably also seen a lot of country code TLDs (aka ccTLDs), such as .us, .co.uk, .ca, .es, .de, .fr, etc… Today, I’m not going to be talking about ccTLDs. I’m going to be talking about the wave of new gTLDs that are coming in the next 2-3 years.
Starting in 2013 and ending in 2015, iCANN will launch 600+ new gTLDs.

It’s very difficult to find a complete list of the new gTLDs. No one seems to have a comprehensive list. Name.com has 450 new gTLDs currently listed, while 101Domain.com has 554. EuropeanDomainCentre.com has a really cool infographic with estimated release dates for the new gTLDs. Their data shows 617 new gTLDs going live from 2013-2015. While I am a little unclear as to the exact number of new gTLDs going live, it looks like there are well over 600.
