10 Years a PMGer: Pam Buyers, Head of Culture
Tasked with building and overseeing essential functions like HR, recruiting, accounting, and payroll before evolving into her current role as Head of Culture, Pam Buyers is often cited as one of the most influential employees in PMG’s history. This month, she celebrated her 10-year service anniversary, and to honor this incredible milestone, Pam answered a few questions for us about some of her most memorable moments at PMG.
What was your first day like at PMG?
I walked into a dark, rectangular room with no windows and was seated in a corner at a desk across from Jacob Herman. We had developers, creatives, SEOs, and a few account people. I alone was Human Resources. That meant that I was in charge of recruiting, training, benefits, onboarding, payroll, and accounting—not to mention, planning fun events and making sure that everyone was okay. There were only 12 of us, and I loved it. We were building something great!
How has your role changed over the years?
One day, our CEO George Popstefanov walked in and said, “Should we hire a controller?” and I answered emphatically, “Yes!” From that day forward, people were added to the team, and the rest is history.
What’s been your biggest achievement or success?
I have felt so proud to know that I have played a part in recruiting, interviewing, and hiring so many wonderful people and putting them on the path to their current careers at PMG. I'd like to add that two of those people are George and our Executive Vice President Price Glomski—both who I hired into their first jobs right out of college at a prior company we worked for.
What’s your favorite part of being a PMGer?
I love working with smart, ambitious, creative, fun, and caring people.
What’s your fondest PMG memory over the last ten years?
When I’m asked this question, I always think of a time when I laughed the hardest. It was July 28, 2016, when we hosted a karaoke night. We’d signed the contract for our first addition to the Fort Worth office, but we hadn’t started construction. We rented a stage, some microphones, a DJ, a taco truck, a grilled cheese truck, and a friend of PMGer Allan McMahon was the bartender. Everyone sang, danced, and laughed all night long. When some people tell you that they aren’t a good singer, they’re probably telling the truth.
Looking ahead, what excites you the most?
Dr. Seuss’s book, “Oh, the Places You’ll Go,” comes to mind, and I think what’s most exciting for me is envisioning where our next offices will be, what future clients we’ll have, or even where the next summer soirée could be.
What’s one thing you wish you knew before starting working here?
Just when you think you have a handle on how to do something, it’s going to change.
How would you describe your PMG journey in one or two words?
Rollercoaster. It’s been an incredible journey, and I can’t wait to see what happens next!
