Data Analytics. Big Data. These are buzz words we all use, but many have trouble making sense of. With these tips and tricks for using Omniture SiteCatalyst, one of the most common portals for data collection, I’m about to make your life a heck of a lot easier. Let’s begin with getting the data you want out of Omniture without necessarily having to log into SiteCatalyst each time you need it.

Finding Reports Quickly

Under “View All Reports,” use the Search function to quickly find your needed report:

Use the “favorite” function to flag the reports that you come back to often:

Your favorites will then appear on the left side of your screen underneath “My Favorites”:

my favorites

Send yourself the report on a schedule and in a format that works for you. If you use this feature, make sure that the dates for the metrics you are pulling and your sent schedule match. For example, if you are looking at data from last week, set a weekly send schedule:

To get more than one report in a sent-straight-to-you PDF format – use the ‘Create Dashboard’ function. A dashboard is useful if you would like to see more than one report, see reports with different time frames or would like to aggregate reports from different report suites into one place. This way you won’t have to switch between “Favorited” reports or dig through individual emails to find all the data you may need out of SiteCatalyst.

Creating Dashboards

Find your report and click ‘Add to Dashboard’:

Name your report and name your new dashboard:

Add as many differing data pulls (reportlets) as you need to your latest dashboard. You can add them from different report suites and with different data ranges. When you are ready to format your dashboard, use the Search function under “View All Reports” for your Dashboard Name.

Drag and drop reportlets into preferred order:

Use the Tool function in order to display reports with or without graphs and details as needed:

You are able to use the date functionality in order to look at the time frame that you need. You are also able to set each reportlet on its own time frame by clicking on the dates underneath the title.

You can now take your completed dashboard and use the “Favorite” or “Send” functions as stated above.
