There's No 'Typical' Day in PMG's Graduate Leadership Program

If I’m ever asked the question, "So...what does a normal day actually look like for someone in the Graduate Leadership Program at PMG?" You won’t get a clear answer because every day is truly different.

I've always liked variety and spontaneity. The idea of doing the exact same thing every day has never really appealed to me, so I quickly realized the marketing world was a perfect fit. Every day is different, depending on business or customer needs. Some days in the GLP are packed with learning sessions, others are spent working on specific tasks, and sometimes we have a whole day dedicated to using AI and Alli (our proprietary technology platform). Every day is different, which means there's always something new to learn.

The First Few Weeks 

The first couple of weeks of the GLP look a little different than the rest. Most of our days were filled with back-to-back informational sessions where leaders across PMG introduced us to the company, different media channels, customer accounts, and the technology we use every day. There was a lot of information coming our way, but looking back, those sessions gave me a strong foundation that made everything else click as I started working more with my team.

By week three, we already had our placements, both our channel and customer, and that's when everything started to feel real! We spent most afternoons shadowing our teams, sitting in meetings, asking lots of questions, and finally seeing how everything we learn in sessions connects to real customer work. It was exciting (and maybe a little nerve-racking), but everyone was incredibly patient and eager to help us learn.

Most mornings start the same way for me; I always get a matcha from our Café (it’s free)!! It's become part of my routine before settling in for the day. I also start by checking my emails and calendar, so I can know what’s happening that day. After that, every morning can look a little different. One of my favorite parts of the day isn't necessarily work-related, but it's lunch with my coworkers. We have an hour break for lunch, and a group of us GLPers grab our lunch (that PMG provides) and head out to the balcony in the Dallas office together. We talk about what we’re all working on, life outside of work, weekend plans, or whatever else comes to mind. These lunches have turned my coworkers in the GLP into genuine friends, and they've made starting my first full-time job feel a whole lot less intimidating.

In the afternoons, we have dedicated Impact Integration time. This is when we work through certifications, complete learning modules, or have set training time on our customers. One thing I've really appreciated about PMG is that learning isn't something that's expected to happen only during onboarding. PMG genuinely invests in helping us keep growing, and setting aside dedicated time during the workday shows how much they value development.

The Buddy Program & The People at PMG

Another reason the transition has felt so smooth is the buddy program. Every GLPer is paired with someone on their team who helps train them throughout the program. My buddy never expected me to know everything on day one (spoiler alert: I didn’t). Instead, I started by shadowing and asking questions, then gradually took on small tasks, and now I’m owning tasks for my customer by myself. Looking back, it's pretty cool to realize how much responsibility I've been trusted with in just seven weeks. The progression feels very natural, and by the end of the program, you realize you're doing things that would've seemed overwhelming when you first started.

But if I had to choose one aspect of the program that makes the GLP so special, it wouldn't be the training sessions or even the customer work; it would be the people. Starting your first job after college is exciting, but it's also a little scary (okay, a LOT scary). You're figuring out a new city, a new routine, and a completely different stage of life. What makes the GLP so unique is that you're doing all of that alongside 80+ other recent graduates who are experiencing the exact same thing. There's something really comforting about looking around the room and realizing everyone is in the same boat together. From having lunch together or just greeting a GLPer in passing, the little moments throughout each day with my fellow GLPers have made PMG feel like somewhere I belong.

At the end of the day, there really isn't a 'typical' day in the GLP, and I hope there never is. Every week brings you new opportunities, new challenges, and new things to learn. I've grown more in the past seven weeks than I ever expected, not just professionally but personally, too.
